Garage Wall Raising
Home BACK

March 13, 2004

I enjoyed a crew of sons to help erect the garage walls.  Elvis the duck stood guard and watched the progress as Josh, Zack, and I started laying out the garage walls.
Zack and I got things started early in the morning.  Zack owns a nailing gun which made fast work after the layout was done.  We got a wall raised before Josh showed up.
As soon as Josh arrived he looked at the door framing and thought it was too small.  Wouldn't you know he was right, and we had to tear it apart and re-do the doorway.  Good thing he spoke up.  Zack and I just mis-communicated the finished vs. rough door dimensions causing the problem.  Best fixed now than later eh!
We raised the walls pretty quickly.   The window height seemed odd, but that was because of the footer height.  We have 8' walls on top of 10" footers to make the ceilings 8' 10" tall.
We had some discussions about squaring, and layout, but all worked out in the end.
At least it was looking like some building going on now instead of digging holes or pouring cement.
'Course the garage looked pretty weird without a back wall.  That back wall would be the House wall of Sing Logs as they go up.  For the time being, we had an odd looking 3 wall affair to deal with.
