Interior Walls, Protective Cover - First Sing Logs

Interior walls
The first course of logs are down in order to do the sub floor decking.  Next was the worrying about protecting the logs and the building from the weather.  Although I'd considered this for months, until now I'd not had to really decided just how I was going to protect it all.  During the next course of logs I really had to decide.
I knew the actual building phase would be very slow, with all sorts of weather and UV damaging sun rays to deal with.

My plan was to build the interior walls so I could tent or tarp the project and work under cover from rain or sun.

Okay, this tarp idea turned out to be a major project of it's own!

What a challenge.  It took a full days battle just to tent the garage area.  The house section was much larger and the battle was 2 days long, plus days of fixin', patchin', and prayin afterwards.

Actually this first tent design pictured did not work.  It drained water away just fine, but man did it catch the wind!  It would Never survive.

I had to make the ends and sides of the tent come down closer to the ground to pick up less up drafting.  If it weren't for the interior walls this wouldn't have worked.  Still, I'm very nervous about the high winds.  Guess I'll just have to get this thing built!!
I also had to set my exterior doorway framing up.  That gave me some extra uprights to use for leveling and plumbing the next courses of logs - as well as more tent hanging spots.
The fourth course of logs would be where I can start my first big window framing.

More window frames on the fifth and sixth log courses followed up by the counter height electrical.

Add insulation spray every 4 feet or so and there becomes Lots to keep track of from now on.

That ongoing challenge to keep logs level and plumb will be aided by the door and window uprights as well as checking with  the laser leveler.  I gotta say, these logs all have little errors making them difficult to work with.  We found logs with a slight twist in one end, or just a 1/16 or more wider or skinnier in height or width than they should be, maybe a warp on one end, a knot that is high.  So many angles that the logs can be "OFF" or twisted, warped or damaged just a little will effect successive logs.

Building with the Sing Logs is not going to be near as easy to keep level and plumb as I'd hoped.

Here are a few pics as the first floor logs begin to go up, from under the circus tent.  Actually, the tent was Great.  Fun to build under in the rain and in the sun it kept the temp down, blocked the wind well, and it sounded like a huge sail, but kept everything protected.  The sound in weather was a trip!
