Plumbing

The Pex plumbing was fun, but  probably my least liked part of the whole building project was the drainage plumbing.

For the Supply I ran plastic PEX plumbing lines so I didn't have to "sweat" copper fittings.  I found an ex-plumber to come look at my plumbing schematics to make sure I was lining everything out okay.  Then it was a matter of fishing the Pex lines throughout the house, starting with the main hot&cold feeds through the crawl space and up into the walls all the way up to the second floor bathroom.  Running the PEX was pretty darn easy.  MUCH easier than Copper!  The rough fittings were also very easy and I never had to sweat any copper except for the radiant floor configuration.   The Pex part of the plumbing was sorta fun and easy.  The Radiant Floor story is under another category.

It was the hard black plastic drain lines that were a bitch.  I can't tell you how many times I went back to the hardware stores for this size, angle, or piece that I thought I needed.  It took a couple weeks just doing the drain system.  The drain system had to be "just so" to meet required building code.  Lots of required drop distances and locations.  I spent a great deal of time drawing my plumbing schematics.  This is the part where I had to gouge out 3" - 1" holes through the wall plates and studs to run hard plastic piping.  It was very difficult  during this section, and I cussed plenty when nobody was looking.  I had to pressure test the finished drainage and I did have to struggle with several leaks.  It took a while but I eventually got it right.  I was really sweating the plumbing inspection, but when the inspector came out he just looked around a little and asked if I ran a pressure test.  He passed me without any changes, without testing, without really looked at anything closely.

Well, I didn't get many pictures of the rough plumbing or the finish plumbing.

I am sure I took some, because like the electrical I wanted to show where pipes were located.

I'll have to add pics and story if/when I find some pictures.
